Hand made, woven Shell Brooch- Sea of Wine
To the ancient Greeks the sea was described as the colour of wine.
This is because they shared the properties of mystery and depth.
With this piece I played with this idea, choosing colours that evoke this idea.
deep burgundy red, turquoise and soft blues intermixed with warm nude colours creating a whirlpool movement within the form.
Measuring : 8. 5 cm long and 7 cm wide.
4 cm diameter hand painted laser cut steel disc centre.
Taking their cues from my large-scale sculptural work, these shell-like brooches are intricately hand-woven using micro macrame techniques.
Each brooch is a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable, hand crafted art.
Woven from a combination of high-quality fibres including silk, polyester and raffia.
Each piece features a hand-painted, laser-cut steel centre detail.
